Throughout middle and high school, I did use MS Word, but rarely. I generally used Google Docs more frequently and grew to prefer that. It is, in my opinion, more aesthetically pleasing, and it also connects to Google Drive, where I can organize all of my documents and other applications together. I am slowly switching over to Word, as most of my classes require assignments to be submitted as a Word document.
The standard of the ISTE Standards that is most meaningful to me is 2.2, Leader. As an educator, you have a duty to make sure that your students are led through academics and are taught properly. You also have to make sure that your students are well advocated for, whatever it may be that is in their best interests. I also think with the importance of technology, it is important for a teacher to lead students through digital literacy, introducing them to this new form of learning.
I agree with some of the assumptions that surround what being a "digital native" is. I do believe that people who are born into a time when Internet technology already existed will know how to use it quickly and better than those not born in that time. I also agree that digital natives, like my generation, do have shorter attention spans, and sometimes that is to a fault. However, I do not agree that digital natives, in general, dislike reading and/or that they prefer to learn via games, as I am someone who likes to read and prefers note-taking as my preferred learning tactic.
